T&I Credit Union and Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union are excited to announce we are merging, effective April 1, 2025.

We will continue to keep this webpage updated as new information is available. The following Frequently Asked Questions will provide answers to common questions relating to the merger. As always, we are here for you. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have other questions.

Keeping true to our commitment to serving you has been increasingly difficult as new and upgraded technology and services outpace the resources we have as a credit union of our size. We cannot continue to compete with larger financial institutions due to the rising costs of technology and regulatory compliance.

MSGCU is the 6th largest credit union in Michigan, has had an average 97% member satisfaction rating for 20 years, and anyone who lives, works or worships in our state can join. The two credit unions share core values including the same 70-year commitment to serving our local communities and a dedication to member service excellence. This merger provides T&I CU the ability to offer you:

  • More products and services, including innovative digital tools and services

  • A growing branch network spanning Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, and Washtenaw counties. In addition to the branch and team members that will remain here in Clawson, you will have future access to MSGCU’s branch network (currently 22 branches, plus a new one opening this year in Rochester Hills)

  • Competitive rates and low fees

T&I CU and MSGCU operate on different technical systems, and those need to be combined so that your information will be available in MSGCU systems moving forward. Our goal is to make the transition easy for you, so it will take several months to complete the work and verify everything is ready. We anticipate it to be complete in late 2025.

Until we notify you that the systems are combined, please continue using the same logins, payment methods, debit and credit cards, and checks. Any direct deposits you have set up (e.g. payroll or Social Security) will not need to change right away, so please do not make any changes at this time. The same phone number and Clawson branch are available to serve you.

Yes, the branch and team members will remain. The Clawson location will provide more access for MSGCU’s current members and the communities they serve. And as an added benefit, once we are on the same systems as MSGCU (later this year), T&I CU members will have access to MSGCU’s 22-and-growing branch network, as well as 30,000 fee-free ATMs.

Yes, T&I team members will join the MSGCU team.

Absolutely! After the merger, all T&I Credit Union members will become MSGCU members and have access to all their products, services and locations (once the technical systems are combined). While schools and government are part of MSGCU’s history and in the name, anyone who lives, works, or worships in Michigan can join the credit union.

This is not necessary as all accounts and services will transition automatically when the technical systems are combined. Please continue using the same logins, payment methods, debit and credit cards, routing number, and checks. We will keep you well informed of any changes prior to them taking place.

Like T&I CU, MSGCU lives the credit union philosophy of people helping people. They give back to our communities in the ways of scholarships, grants, donations, volunteerism, free financial education and more. Last year, they provided nearly $300,000 in community support – check out their year in reviewExternal Website.

MSGCU offers competitive rates and an array of products and services to make banking convenient.

In addition to our mortgage, home equity, and auto loans, MSGCU offers traditional savings and checking accounts, CDs, VISA credit and debit cards, youth accounts, loans for teachers and first responders, and more.

Members will also benefit from MSGCU’s digital services including video banking, online banking, bill pay services, credit monitoring with free credit reports, and a highly rated mobile app. MSGCU has a low reliance on fees and provides up to two-day early access of payroll direct deposits, provided the funds are available from the member’s employer.

T&I CU’s routing number will remain active for some time following the combination of systems later this year. It is not yet known if account numbers will remain or change. It’s important to keep using your existing account number and routing number until you hear otherwise.

When the merger is finalized in April, you won’t need to do anything differently at first. Rates you have on current fixed rate loans or deposits will remain.

T&I Credit Union and MSGCU operate on different technical systems, and those will need to be combined. The T&I CU team will continue to service you in Clawson for any products and services you have with us, so please continue using the same logins, payment methods, debit and credit cards, and checks.

We are currently working on this. As we work to combine the technical systems of T&I CU into MSGCU’s, we are also working to combine products and services. If any changes occur to a product you use, you’ll be notified well ahead of time. Rates you have on current fixed rate loans or deposits will remain.

Until our systems are combined, which will be late this year, it will be business as usual with each credit union. The T&I CU team will continue to service you in Clawson for any products and services you have with us, so please continue using the same logins, debit and credit cards, and checks. For your MSGCU accounts, the MSGCU team will service your needs at any of their branch locations, call center, or through Video Banking. We will keep you well informed of any changes prior to them taking place.

Until T&I CU and MSGCU systems are fully combined, updates can be made the same way you make them now, using the same phone number, (800) 338-3908, or at the Clawson branch.

Yes, as part of this process, it will eventually change to Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU). While schools and government are part of MSGCU’s history and in the name, anyone who lives, works, or worships in Michigan can join the credit union.

Member service hours will continue as-is until systems are combined later this year. Any changes in hours of operation will be communicated in advance.

MSGCU branch lobbies, drive thrus, and ATMs will be available for member service once the systems are fully combined in late 2025. While T&I and MSGCU both offer members convenient access to thousands of ATMs nationwide, they utilize different ATM networks (T&I uses the MoneyPass network and MSGCU uses the Co-Op network). Until systems are combined, please continue using T&I CU’s ATM locator for convenient ATM access. We will let you know as soon as you can access MSGCU branches and ATMs.
